The First Post!

Hello!
If you're reading this then you must have found your way to my blog. I hope you enjoy this post and hopefully will come back to read more :D

I want to start my blog with a project which I finished in the early hours of this morning as I think it's my best work yet!

So lets start with the backstory first.
My son is in his first year at primary school and recently found out his teacher is having a baby. Now my son knows I like making things so the first thing he did was ask if I could make his teacher a present for the new baby. He asked specifically for a quilt.

So off I went searching for the perfect fabric, which we all know can be a blessing a curse all rolled up into one. I decided that I didn't want it to be traditionally blue or pink so I was looking for something quite neutral but still cute and childlike...

Then I stumbled upon the Hello, Bear fabric collection by Bonnie Christine. I remember looking at this fabric a while ago and really wanting to buy some but I didn't really know what I'd do with it so I left it waiting in my basket on several websites. I quickly clicked buy and anxiously awaited for the postman to deliver this bundle of fabric to my door.

It definitely did not disappoint! This fabric is beautiful, the colours are gorgeous and it just feels so soft, perfect for a baby to lie and play on!
After the fabric arrived I began searching on line for a quilt pattern that I liked. Prior to this quilt I had only made patchwork quilts and mini quilts so I wanted something a bit more challenging.

During my search I came across this quilt made by Beth at The Zen Of Ironing.

I immediately fell in love with this quilt and knew that I wanted to have a go at making something similar. So off I went cutting out all of my squares and rectangles with my sizzix big shot plus machine and then I set about sewing and arranging until my son was happy with the result.

The flying geese pattern was pretty easy to sew up, I just had t be careful to get the patterns of the fabric the right way as I did alternating geese rows.
I decided to quilt the white sections to echo the lines with a grey thread and I really love how it came out on both the front and back of the quilt.

The quilt backing was a 100% cotton print from my local branch of Boyes. As my sons teacher is expecting a girl I thought it would be nice to use a peach/pink for the backing. I also couldn't find a binding that I liked so just did a fold over binding with the backing and I really like how it turned out.

I really hope that you liked reading about this project and that I haven't bored you to death with the details!
Now a question to you readers, do you have any projects for lots of small triangle scraps? I really don't want to throw them away and surely there has got to be something I can make with them! Leave a comment below with your suggestions :)

Thanks for reading and see you soon,
